Most of the recipes out there for ranch salad dressing include powdered garlic and onion powder. I don’t like the idea of ‘powder’ in my food, whatever that is! Not when you can easily have the real flavours. If the ranch recipes have powder in them, then just imagine what kind of unnatural thickeners and preservatives are in the store-bought varieties.
So this is a natural version of buttermilk dressing, and I think it tastes just as nice as any I’ve had.
There are many uses for buttermilk, such as a marinade/tenderiser for chicken, combine it with cream to make your own sour cream, use in baking for extra rich flavour and soft texture. Since I started making butter (which is so much easier than you’d expect), I tend to have a lot of buttermilk on hand, which is the liquid that separates from the cream. I love not having to buy items like this at the store and being able to use them in many other recipes.
